The Charity
The charity manages Tudor House as (currently) four unfurnished dwellings which, as a matter of practice, are provided primarily for older people. Tudor House is a Grade II listed building in the centre of Winchcombe, which was built in the 1830’s. It is a large house built in Victorian Tudor style, which is currently divided into four flats, all the flats are capable of holding two residents (providing both meet the qualifying conditions for residents)

The principle behind everything that the charity does is that residents should enjoy independence and the freedom to come and go as they please, while living in comfortable and secure accommodation. Residents should feel confident in the knowledge that support will always be available, whether from the charity itself or from outside agencies, should the need arise. Above all, the charity respects residents’ privacy. The Almshouse is for people who are able to live independently. If residents’ personal circumstances should change, the charity reserves the right to review their appointment. If residents cannot live on their own, then they, or their next of kin on their behalf, may need to find alternative accommodation.
Governance Structure
Tudor House Trustee Limited is the corporate trustee of the charity, with a board of local, voluntary directors who therefore manage the charity and who visit Tudor House regularly. They work together as a team, with certain specific areas of particular responsibility. There is no Warden nor any other paid staff, and no personal care is provided.
One of the most challenging and also satisfying roles of the almshouse directors is to manage the maintenance of the mid-19th century building. This involves ensuring prompt responses to day to day maintenance requests from residents, planning cyclical maintenance such as external decoration and identifying and agreeing priorities for major maintenance work. The directors are assisted by a quinquennial report prepared by professional surveyors and by six-monthly visits by directors when they prepare systematic statements confirming that such important features of the almshouses as alarms, plumbing, boilers etc. are working correctly and that any concerns expressed by residents are addressed.

Jon is a retired charity lawyer, who lives in Winchcombe. He has significant experience of acting as a trustee of many different charities, both large national charities and smaller, local charities.
Jennie Thomas
Jennie is a retired Occupational Therapist who lives locally. She has gained her knowledge and experience in a wide variety of healthcare settings in her professional and volunteering roles.
